SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams competed against some of the best teams in the nation on Friday afternoon in the 36th Annual National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame.
The DePaul women started the day with the 5k race. Paige Skorseth earned the top team finish for the third time this year in 30th place with a time of 18:35.8. Right behind Skorseth, Courtney Tedeschi crossed the finish line at 18:40.8 in 38th. Katerina Cirone rounded out the top-three DePaul finishers in 64th with a time of 19:02.9.
"The women just took a step forward from what they've been doing this season," said assistant coach Leah Bohr. "As a team, the women averaged our best time ever since I have been here. I am happy with that result today."
Chris Korabik led the Blue Demons for a second-straight race when he finished in 49th at 26:13.4. Finishing back-to-back was Alex Campanella and Daniel Peterson in 56th and 57th place, respectively. Campanella came in at 26:17.9, while Peterson crossed the line at 26:18.3.
"The men are feeling the effects of good training and hard work," mentioned Bohr. "As a team, the men are coming together better than ever and they will be there when it really counts."
DePaul cross country takes the next weekend off before returning on October 3 for the SIU Edwardsville John Flamer Invitational. The Edwardsville, Ill. races are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT.
