CHICAGO - The No. 24/21 DePaul women's basketball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line against Providence on Sunday in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The 2 p.m. contest can be seen on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dave Bernhard and Trish Babcock McGraw on the call courtside. DePaul (15-6, 7-1 BIG EAST) sits at the top of the league standings and is one game ahead of St. John's and Villanova who each have two losses in league play. The Blue Demons defeated the Red Storm on Jan. 3 however their only league loss came at the hands of Villanova almost two weeks ago.
Providence (4-14, 0-8 BIG EAST) is still searching for its first conference win. The Friars have dropped their last eight games and have yet to register a win in 2016. Providence has two players averaging double figures and is led by Sarah Beal's 12.3 points and 3.1 assists per game.
Following the conclusion of Sunday's game DePaul will celebrate head coach Doug Bruno's 600th win as the Blue Demons' coach. Bruno earned his 600th Division I win at Butler on Jan. 15 and has 602 collegiate victories heading into Sunday's game. At the conclusion of the game - which is also women's basketball Alumnae Day - DePaul will serve cake, cookies and pizza in celebration of Bruno's momentous victory.
DePaul returns to action next week and welcomes Seton Hall and St. John's. The Blue Demons and Pirates are scheduled to tip at Noon on Friday, Jan. 29 and DePaul is set to welcome more than 2,000 Chicago Public School to campus. Sunday's game with the Red Storm will be broadcast on FS2 with former Blue Demon Sarah Kustok on the Noon call.
Opponent No. 22: Providence is still looking for its first BIG EAST Conference win of the season… has lost eight straight… last win came on Dec. 20, 2015 at Rhode Island… led by Sarah Beal's 12.3 points and YoYo Nogic's 10.6… Aliyah Miller is third with 9.5 points while no one else on the team is averaging more than six points… Nogic's ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in 3-point field goal percentage (.449) and 3-pointers per game (2.2)… Erica Meyer is third in the league with 1.5 blocks per game.
The Series: DePaul leads the all-time series with PC 11-4 including five straight… Providence's last series win was on Jan. 7 2012… DePaul is 7-0 all-time in games played in Chicago and is 6-0 in contests at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
It Could Happen: When Chanise Jenkins step on the floor against Creighton, it will be her 127th career game at DePaul which ties for eighth all-time… she needs 10 more 3-pointers to move into a tie for fourth-most on DePaul's career triple list… currently has 194 3-pointers… needs 25 points to tie Jasmine Penny (2010-14) for 18th all-time in scoring… needs two steals to move into the top 10 all-time in steals, currently has 212 which ranks 11th… Megan Podkowa needs 28 rebounds to tie Felicia Chester (2006-11) for eighth… Podkowa enters Sunday's game with 723 rebounds which ranks ninth… Jessica January needs three assists to move into the top 10 all-time at DePaul in assists… she has 341 assists… Jenkins has 591 assists which ranks third all-time… Veronica Ross (1986-90) had assists 672 which ranks second… January needs 16 points to become DePaul's 34th 1,000-point scorer.
