CHICAGO - No. 16/14 DePaul came out fast, built a big lead and never looked back Monday in a 94-62 victory over Prairie View A&M.
Fired up by a raucous McGrath-Phillips Arena crowd that featured more than 2,000 enthusiastic, screaming school children on Field Trip Day, the Blue Demons improved to 6-2 on the season.
Jacqui Grant and Ashton Millender headed up six players in double figures with 15 points apiece. Jessica January came through with 12 points and seven assists while Tanita Allen finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Amarah Coleman and Kelly Campbell each contributed 10 points.
A pair of Campbell three-pointers followed by Allen's long-distance connection put the home team ahead 29-9 en route to a 31-11 lead after the first quarter.
Allen's basket early in the second quarter followed by a Lauren Prochaska three culminated a 13-2 run and provided a 44-15 advantage. A January shot sent the Blue Demons into halftime with a 50-20 lead.
There was no let-up in the third quarter with January, Allen and Grant sparking the attack. Millender's three near the end of the quarter gave DePaul its largest lead of the game at 44 points.
The Blue Demons won the battle of the boards 49-37 and forced 21 Prairie View turnovers as the Panthers fell to 4-5.
Next up for DePaul is a big showdown on Saturday against No. 2/1 Notre Dame that will tip at 7 p.m. at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
