Men's Tennis Falls to Southern Miss

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- The DePaul men's tennis team fell in a close 4-3 match against Southern Miss in the first round of the HEB Tournament Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
DePaul (3-9) recorded three singles wins, but Southern Miss (8-6) swept in doubles action.
In singles, Sten Leusink, Kyle Johnson and Nathan de Veer clinched wins in their respective spots. Leusink snapped a five match losing streak at No. 1, defeating Tarun Surat 6-1, 6-4. Johnson won at No. 4 against Daniel Merker 6-2, 7-5. de Veer recorded his fifth win of the dual season after besting Rakshit Rishi 6-3, 6-4.
Rounding out singles, Alex Galoustian fell to Chao-Yu Huang 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Paul John dropped his match at No. 3 to Jorman Reyes 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 while Jan-Willem Feilzer fell at No. 6 6-4, 6-3 to Teeradon Tortrakul.
In doubles, John and Johnson lost 6-0 at No. 1 to Surat and Merker as Galoustian and Feilzer dropped at No. 2 6-3 to Huang and Wen-Po Tseng. Leusink and de Veer's match at No. 3 went unfinished against Mikhail Esipov and Reyes at 5-4.
DePaul is back on the courts again today to take on South Alabama in the consolation bracket.
