Men's Tennis Victorious at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - DePaul men's tennis first BIG EAST match of the season made for an exciting one on Friday afternoon at Butler. The Blue Demons defeated the Bulldogs, 4-3.
Boris Spanjaard and Tim Corwin proved to be key components in DePaul's (12-9, 1-0 BIG EAST) win, teaming up at No. 2 doubles and clinching the final two points in singles action.
The Blue Demons earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Fran Tonejc and Christopher Casati notched the first win at No. 3 with a 6-3 finish over Temilope Adelakun and Ari Gerstein. Corwin and Spanjaard put DePaul up 1-0 heading into singles action after a 6-4 win against Mikhail Khmiadashvili and Aviv Ben Shabat.
Butler jumped ahead 3-1 with wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles until Corwin put DePaul back within one after a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory at No. 2 over Khmiadashvili.
Nathan de Veer followed with a another three-set win at the top spot. He defeated Ben Shabat 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Spanjaard notched match point in an hard fought 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 result over Gerstein at No. 5.
The Blue Demons are back in action at Xavier on Sunday, April 9 with first serve slated for 9 a.m. CT.
