CHICAGO - Once again, DePaul's relentless balance and all-for-one mentality proved too much for its latest BIG EAST adversary.
Juniors Mart'e Grays and Ashton Millender led the way with 20 points apiece, and Millender added a career-high seven rebounds in Sunday's 87-65 victory over Butler at Wintrust Arena.
The Blue Demons' fourth-straight win and seventh in the last eight games came on the strength of six Blue Demons scoring in double figures.
Along with Grays and Millender, Chante Stonewall (12 points, eight rebounds), Tanita Allen (10 points, eight boards), Kelly Campbell (10 points, six rebounds, five assists) and Amarah Coleman (10 points, three steals) made big contributions.
The first quarter was played at Butler's tempo with the score in single digits until DePaul (15-5, 6-1) closed with an 8-1 run to take a 15-7 lead into the second quarter. Three-pointers by Stonewall and Lauren Prochaska (five assists) led the charge as the Blue Demons forced eight turnovers.
Campbell's three-pointer early in the second quarter made it 20-9, and it was a double-digit lead until Butler (11-8, 3-4) closed to 23-16. Millender's jumper put the home team ahead by nine.
Grays reached double figures for the seventh game in a row with her layup that sent the Blue Demons into halftime with a 38-28 lead.
Prochaska was turning in another solid performance off the bench and had five assists. Stonewall and Millender each had seven points and five boards. Their team had forced 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and finished with 24 forced turnovers.
The Blue Demons lead fluctuated between nine and 11 points early in the third quarter. Beginning with a Stonewall three, DePaul closed out the third quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 19-11 to emerge with a 65-48 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
Three-pointers by Coleman and Prochaska followed by a Stonewall score inside upped the lead to 75-54 early in the fourth quarter.
