Free admission for students, faculty, the DePaul community and their guests
CHICAGO – The entire DePaul community and their guests are invited to the Wintrust Welcome event Thursday at Wintrust Arena featuring the hugely entertaining "Blue Man Group" which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in Chicago at the Briar Street Theatre.
Admission is free to the headline event for the university's Welcome Week celebration with doors opening at 6 p.m.
Students, faculty and staff will need to present a current DePaul ID at the entrance. Their guests should enter with them. The Wintrust bag policy will be enforced.
The men's and women's basketball teams will be hosting tours of their locker rooms, and fans can explore the concourses. There will be opportunities to purchase tickets to Blue Demon basketball games.
There will also be live band karaoke, esports, games and prizes on the Wintrust Concourse. Dinner consisting of samples of the Wintrust cuisine will be served on the Demon Deck and there will be food and games offered on the 100 level and in the DIBS Club including food stations with popcorn and Pepsi products.
Shuttle buses will run from both the Lincoln Park and Loop campuses between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. On the Lincoln Park campus, buses will depart from the Athletic Center, 2323 N. Sheffield Ave. Students in the East and West residence halls should board those buses. Shuttle buses in the Loop will depart from 1 E. Jackson.
Guests should be in their seats by 7 p.m. for the Blue Man Group opening performance.
Blue Man Group performances are a celebration of the human connection. Mixing art, music, comedy and state-of-the-art technology, the show encourages audiences to reconnect with their inner (and outer) child and see the world through a new perspective. Three bald and blue men explore our cultural norms with wonder, poking fun at our collective quirks and reminding us how much we all have in common.
Students should register for Wintrust Welcome on Campus Connect. Faculty and staff should REGISTER HERE.
Since Wintrust Arena opened after Welcome Week last year, DePaul Athletics was unable to introduce the new facility to the DePaul community at the beginning of fall quarter.
With students not scheduled for tours of Wintrust during their orientation, DePaul Athletics is providing a fun experience to acclimate students to the arena. Wintrust Welcome helps to educate students on transportation options for getting to the arena in the South Loop, where to enter, information on the bag policy and where the Demon Deck/student section is located.
This season, 2018 is "the year of the student" at DePaul. Students will have the chance at every game to participate in contests on both social media and on the court for prizes. The Demon Deck has new logoed bar tables and stools and can be reserved for group outings by student clubs and organizations. There will be student-focused giveaways for select games.
DePaul students receive free game tickets to all athletic events on campus, including men's and women's basketball at Wintrust Arena. In addition to the arena being located close to the CTA Green and Red lines, DePaul runs complimentary student shuttle buses from the Lincoln Park campus for all games at Wintrust Arena.
