Tonejc Brothers Win Doubles Title at WMU Invitational

Fran and Vito Tonejc sweep all three matches on Friday
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Tripp Tuff, Tamas Zador, Luuk Wassenaar, Conor O'Meara along with Fran and Vito Tonejc opened up their 2018-19 season Friday at the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.
It was quite a day for the Tonejc brothers as they won three consecutive doubles matches on their way to the Flight C title.
Their season opener was a 6-2 victory over Arthur Chau and Shramay Dhawan of the University of Chicago at the Sorensen Courts.
They followed up with a 7-5 decision over Peter Kuszynski and Kris Knof of Western Michigan. That led to the Flight C title match as the Tonejcs triumphed 7-6 (5) over Jack Randall and Kennesuke Nouchi of the host school.
The doubles tandem of Tamas Zador and Tripp Tuff opened with a 6-3 win over Dino Bonetta and Gvidas Motuzas 6-3. In the Flight B semifinals, they fell 6-1 to WMU's Lenhard Haupt and Jannik Optiz.
They bounced back to capture the third-place match 6-1 over the University of Chicago's Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar.
Singles play will begin on Saturday.
On day two of the prestigious Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Boris Spanjaard advanced in the consolation bracket with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ben Gajardo of Brigham Young. He advances to the consolation round of 16 on Saturday opposite Matis Bot of St. Mary's.
Teammate Christopher Casati dropped his consolation match 6-4, 6-3 to Daniel Krutik of St. Mary's.
The Spanjaard/Casati doubles team will have to wait until Saturday for their main draw second-round match against Tennessee as their Friday match was rescheduled.
