Singles Title for Tuff at WMU Invitational

In his weekend at Western Michigan, Blue Demon junior goes 3-for-3
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Tripp Tuff carried the day for DePaul Sunday in the final round of the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.
Tuff won his third consecutive singles match to open the 2018-19 season with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Joshua Xu from the University of Chicago at Sorensen Courts.
Tuff knocked off Illinois State's Pol Botifoll Rius in the Flight D quarterfinals and followed up with a win over Peter Kuszynski of Western Michigan in the semifinals.
He teamed with Tamas Zador to go 2-1 in doubles play including a triumph over the U. of Chicago's Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar in the Flight B third-place match. Tuff was named to the All-Tournament Second Team.
Fran Tonejc won his first two matches of the weekend to reach the Flight E title match where the Blue Demon junior dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to
Purdue's Dominik Sochurek.
Luuk Wassenaar was in quite a battle in his Flight D third-place match before losing 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 to Kuszynski.
Coach Matt Brothers and his team are off next week and return to action Oct. 5 at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
