Senior forward selected to Preseason WNIT All-Tournament Team
CHICAGO – Just three games into the 2019-20 season and No. 18/20 DePaul has picked up its first tournament accolade.
Sunday night forward Chante Stonewall was selected to the Preseason WNIT all-tournament team after leading the Blue Demons to the semifinals.
No. 7/6 Oregon State won the title on Sunday after an 80-68 victory over Missouri State in Corvallis, Ore.
Stonewall posted game highs with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five steals in a 98-79 win over Miami (Ohio) at the Preseason WNIT opener at Wintrust Arena.
In the second round, the 6-foot, 1-inch senior from Downstate Normal led DePaul past Drexel 81-57 with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
In a 98-77 semifinal loss to Oregon State in Corvallis, Stonewall was whistled for her third foul in the middle of the second quarter. Despite limited playing time, she still came away with 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
For the tournament, the Blue Demon co-captain averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and nearly four steals a game. Tournament MVP Mikayla Pivec of Oregon State averaged 17.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists.
The all-tournament team also included Pivec's teammate Destiny Slocum, Alexa Willard and Jasmine Franklin of Missouri State and Oklahoma's Ana Llanusa.
DePaul returns to action Friday in the opener of the Maggie Dixon Classic against Arkansas State at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The 11 a.m. tipoff will also celebrate the annual Field Trip Day event as DePaul Athletics provides free tickets and T-shirts for 2,000 schoolchildren.
