
Second-Place Finishes for DePaul on Sunday at BIG EAST Championships

Charlie Spencer-White finishes tied for second and Blue Demons finish second as a team
OKATIE, S.C. – A pair of program bests were set on Sunday at the BIG EAST Championship as Charlie Spencer-White marked the top finish for a DePaul golfer in a tie for second and the Blue Demons matched their best team finish in second place at the league tournament.
Spencer-White made a late charge to force a playoff, but came up just short on the final hole and he finished in a four-way tie for second place. The senior shot a 75 (+3) in the third round for a tournament score of 217 (+1). Xavier's Garrett Wood won the individual title with a score of 216 (E). Previously, Freddy Thomas held the top finish for a Blue Demons when he tied for third at the 2015 tournament.
Joe McCarthy joined Spencer-White in the top 10 as his 54-hole total of 221 (+5) put him in a group in eighth place. McCarthy finished his tournament with a 74 (+2) on Sunday. This marks the second consecutive year that McCarthy and Spencer-White have posted top 10 finishes at Callawassie Island Club in the conference championship.
DePaul's second-place finish matched the best BIG EAST showing by the Blue Demons that was set in the 2015 championship. In five of the last six BIG EAST events, DePaul has finished either second or third among the nine conference programs.
Playing in his first conference tournament, freshman Campbell Wolf carded a 74 (+2) in the third round and finished tied for 17th place. Wolf finished with a three-round score of 227 (+11) and was followed by Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Grant Boyson. Gatmaytan posted a 76 (+4) for a final score of 231 (+15) that placed him in a group in 26th place. Boyson shot a 79 (+7) on Sunday for 251 (+35) and 42nd place.
Marquette won the team title with a 24-shot lead over the Blue Demons. The Golden Eagles placed four players in the top eight with a team score of 872 (+8). DePaul finished at 896 (+32) matching its best team score in a BIG EAST Championship played at Callawassie Island. Seton Hall and Butler were tied for third with scores of 899 (+35) and Creighton was fifth with a team total of 904 (+40).
