Players recap first full day in Paris
PARIS – The DePaul men's basketball team visited Vincentian heritage sites and enjoyed an afternoon cruise on the Siene River. For the next few days, the players on the team will be providing updates on the experiences in and around Paris as they follow in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul.

Where do I begin, this trip has been nothing less than a once in a lifetime experience. To be able to not only venture the city of Paris with my brothers, but to be able to learn about the one of the most honorable men who step foot on this Earth is a combination of why this trip is like no other.
Secondly, having a priest who is coming out of retirement to teach us about the honorable St.Vincent de Paul has personally been life changing for me. It is one thing to study and learn about someone's life through a class, but to follow up knowledge with physically and visually seeing what he has done and how he has impacted France is monumental. Father Ed has concisely put together an itinerary of St.Vincent's most prominent existing artifacts.
Not only have we gained a lot more insight about St. Vincent de Paul by trailing his work done in Paris, we are bounding closer as a team. Having the fortune to have our whole team in a foreign country, more specifically Paris has allowed us to "see" the vision of St. Vincent's motto "what must be done." With that question this trip has allowed us create a stronger bond and get closer to our solution to the question in regards to our basketball season.

First off, I would like to start by saying Paris is beautiful! France is a foreign country that I would've never thought I would ever walk the streets of at the age of 19 years old. I'm a young teenager that's from Chicago, Illinois and going out of the country is not a common move for young teens such as me.
Not only am I in France, I'm with a program who really has my best interest of heart, from day one this program showed me nothing but loyalty and took me down roads that I've never been such as Paris. My teammates are the best, with me being the youngest they do their best to keep me on point and always ahead of the game. After day two of the trip, I feel that this is a good bonding trip for various of reasons. We have teammates that are from all over the world, and I feel that's important because with us being out of the country they can help us communicate with others who can't speak English and forces us to communicate with each other.
Secondly, we have a priest guiding of threw our trip who pretty much knows the town like the back of his hand. The main point of the trip is to learn about St. Vincent de Paul and walk the steps of St. Vincent de Paul from his point of view. There was a moment in time where I felt that this wasn't important to me until I really got to see the bigger picture on things. It's always good to be open minded on things because you can always learn something new every day, if I was to give my day a rating out of 1-10 I'll give it a 10 not only was I able to learn more about St Vincent de Paul I was able to learn more about my coaches and teammates which is the key to this trip.

This trip has been a tremendous experience so far. Having Father Ed take us around this beautiful city has been a great display of "Servant Leadership." The same value he teaches us that is necessary to change our world today. Thanks to Father Ed, we have been able to explore France in a different view than most tourists. Experiencing France in the 17th century following the footsteps of St. Vincent DePaul, we are also so fortunate to be staying at such a beautiful hotel that is only a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. Just steps out the door in the morning, you have your first view of the beautiful monument. Thank you to all the donations and support for making this trip possible. I am very glad for this opportunity as I am an incoming freshman who is excited to learn and spend as much time as I can with my teammates and staff that makes this great program what it is. Thank you again for the support!

This is our second day in Paris and it has been absolutely incredible! This is my first time overseas and the experience is like no other. To give an idea of our surroundings we are staying a block away from the Eiffel Tower and we are surrounded by little breakfast and coffee shops. Aside from basketball, we are here to learn about Vincent de Paul. That is what we did today. Father Ed has been nothing short of spectacular. He is able to provide the team with all of the details of Paris. The most amazing part of the trip for me has been the sightseeing. Everything in France is far older then things are in the United States, the history behind some of the buildings we have encountered goes back thousands of years. It has been a truly amazing experience so far and I am extremely blessed and fortunate to be able to do this. Being here with my teammates is an unbelievable experience. We play our first game tomorrow and none of us could be more excited.

My experience here in France so far has been good. Coming off the plane it was instantly different. They had escalators that were like no other I have ever seen. They didn't really have any food or restaurants in the airport either. The streets were not very big and the vehicles were extremely close to each other. They do that to encourage people to walk or take the subway I was told.
With everyone speaking French or Spanish having conversations with others has been difficult, but we've been doing a good job with communication and managing so far. The food here is of course different, but there are some spots that are relatable to the food at home. My favorite thing to eat so far has been the cheese pizza called the Margarita, with a side of french fries. The drinks all have a distinct taste to them that's nothing like the drinks at home to me.
The people here are genuinely nice. They always wave and smile all the time when they see us. The tours around Paris have been great and inspirational. Knowing that we are literally walking in Vincent de Paul's footsteps is just an honor and pleasure because people don't get these opportunities every day. I'm really thankful for the experience, learning all the traditions and going sightseeing to the churches and other places I would've never thought I would be here in this position. Surrounded by my teammates and coaches taking my mind off stuff the trip has been a blessing and has kept me with a positive mindset. Tomorrow is now finally game day and I just can't wait to play, take care of business and enjoy the rest of the trip.
