Morris Honored as BIG EAST Player of the Week

Ignited comeback win at Creighton with 22 points, eight assists, six rebounds
CHICAGO – Sonya Morris' best all-around game of this early season earned the junior guard a coveted distinction on Monday.
Morris was honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Week after sparking No. 18/20 DePaul's 90-81 comeback victory over Creighton in its BIG EAST road debut.
Finishing with 22 points, eight assists and six rebounds, Morris helped the Blue Demons overcome a seven-point deficit in the first half and trailing by three heading into the fourth quarter.
DePaul improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference as Morris notched her second league accolade of 2020-21. She was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Dec. 14.
This is the second time in her career that Morris has been recognized with the top performance. She was selected BIG EAST Player of the Week last season as a sophomore.
Coach Doug Bruno's program also received a top conference honor on Dec. 7 when Darrione Rogers was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Morris leads the Blue Demons in scoring at 18.7 points a game and is also tops in field goals and three-pointers. The combo guard is second in rebounds, assists and steals.
Nationally, she is No. 22 in the country in field goals while ranking third in the BIG EAST in scoring, field goals and three-pointers.
She will lead her team into what is perennially the biggest challenge of the season when DePaul travels east to face No. 3/5 Connecticut on Tuesday. The game will be televised on SNY.
