Blue Demons community service efforts ranked among the best in the nation
CHICAGO – DePaul's student-athletes continued a tradition and commitment to community service as they finished 15th in the NCAA Division I Team Works Challenge. The Team Works Challenge with partner Helper Helper allows schools to track and manage their annual community service efforts.
Beginning in 2015, NCAA Team Works partnered with Helper Helper, a volunteer tracking app and management platform, to create a challenge to recognize student-athletes from across the country for giving back to their communities. Student-athletes across all divisions volunteered for more than 467,208 hours that resulted in an economic impact of $11.88 million.
In its first appearance in the challenge, DePaul finished in 15th among NCAA Division I schools. Additionally, the men's tennis team placed sixth nationally among all men's tennis programs at the Division I level.
Each year DePaul athletics collaborates with many local organizations including elementary schools, Marillac St. Vincent Family Services, Misericordia and Special Olympics Illinois. This year the Blue Demons worked with over 30 different organizations with a 100 percent student-athlete participation rate.
Through these challenging times, DePaul student-athletes and coaches continue to carry out the Vincentian mission and make an impact in the community. As part of this year's remote Vincentian Service Day, teams created special activity videos for kids and families to enjoy at home.
