Patrick played first two seasons at Kansas State before a year at Purdue Fort Wayne
CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced today that Brian Patrick is joining the program next season as a graduate transfer. Patrick played his first two collegiate seasons at Kansas State before transferring to Purdue Fort Wayne and playing with the Mastodons in 2019-20.
"Brian Patrick is a young man who grew up in Florida and is transferring to us from Purdue Fort Wayne," said Leitao. "Brian is a sharpshooter and someone that can stretch the defense and give us more options on the perimeter and allow us to create more opportunities in both the front court and back court. The combination of him and the other players we've signed thus far have made a great addition not only to our back court, but the team overall."
Over his three collegiate seasons between Kansas State (2016-18) and Purdue Fort Wayne, the 6-5 guard played in 81 games with 75 three-pointers.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native played in 32 games with 31 starts last season at Purdue Fort Wayne. He averaged 11.1 points per game, led the team in free throw percentage at .813 and knocked down 53 three-pointers. Patrick totaled 18 games in double figures including three games of 20 or more points. He totaled 24 points with 12 rebounds at Southeast Missouri State and 23 points and six boards against Miami (Ohio).
Patrick played in 49 games over two seasons at Kansas State. He shot .324 from beyond the arc with 22 three-pointers. After transferring, he sat out the 2018-19 season before playing at Purdue Fort Wayne.
As a graduate transfer, Patrick is eligible to play immediately next season. He joins a newcomer class that includes incoming freshman Kobe Elvis along with transfers Javon Freeman-Liberty, Courvoisier McCauley and Ray Salnave.
Freeman-Liberty played his first two seasons at Valparaiso and totaled 992 points with the Crusaders collecting numerous honors as both a freshman and sophomore. Over his two seasons with the Crusaders, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game in 66 games.
McCauley was among the nation's top players last season at Lincoln Memorial as he earned NABC Division II All-American honors and was on the Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List for the national player of the year. In 62 career games with the Railsplitters, McCauley totaled 946 points for a two-season average of 15.3 points per game. He knocked down 161 three-pointers while shooting .412 from behind the arc and averaged 5.1 rebounds per game.
Salnave is also a graduate transfer after playing three seasons at Monmouth. In 95 career games with the Hawks, Salnave averaged 12.1 points, 4.0 rebound and 2.6 assists per game while going 348-440 (.791) at the free throw line. He earned second team All-MAAC and NABC All-District honors last season after averaging 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 31 games.
Elvis signed with DePaul in November and is ranked among Canada's top players. He averaged 26.5 points per game for Bill Crothers Prep last season and was named to the First Team All-Stars for the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association.
