Blue Demon tandem advances to finals of Redbird Invitational
NORMAL, Ill. – Lars Peder Minsaas and Leon Huck led the way for DePaul Saturday at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State.
In the Davis Cup format being used for this tournament, Minsaas and Huck advanced into Sunday's final in the Red Flight with a 2-0 victory over Drake.
With Drake's Matt Clegg sidelined by an injury for his singles match, Illinois State's Arvid Hjalte took his place and topped Minsaas 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
In the other half of DePaul's Red Flight tandem, Huck defeated Drake's Olle Sonesson 6-3, 7-5. Minsaas and Huck picked up the Davis Cup win with an 8-7(5) doubles victory.
Sven Moser and Phasu Sirinit advanced to the White Flight Consolation final with after outpointing Bellarmine 3-0.
The Blue Demons racked up their points courtesy of Sirinit's 6-2, 6-0 straight-sets singles decision over Michael Staff and Moser duplicated that with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Donovan Ecarma. Moser and Sirinit completed the sweep with 8-3 doubles win.
In the Black Flight, Matteo Iaquinto won his singles match over UIC's Kevin Kruzel by a 6-3, 6-2 score, but the Iaquinto/Jona Gitschel team lost the other singles match and the doubles point. They will play for third place on Sunday.
