The Blue Demons host the Blue Demon Holiday Classic on Dec. 10 at Gately
CHICAGO - DePaul track & field released its 2021-22 indoor and outdoor slate on Monday, setting the stage for the Blue Demons return to an entire regularly scheduled season. After the Blue Demons competed in just one indoor meet last winter, DePaul will participate in six regular season indoor meets.
"We are excited to get back to Indoor Track & Field competition," said head coach David Dopek. "Only having one meet last year was quite a bit different. Our last real season back in 2020 seems so long ago."
After hosting the DePaul Triangular last February, the Blue Demons will welcome area opponents for the Blue Demon Holiday Invite on Dec. 10 at Gately Indoor in Chicago. DePaul will also host the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gately on Feb. 25-26.
"We are looking forward to hosting our Blue Demon Holiday invitational at The Track & Field Center at Gately Park this December," said head coach David Dopek. "It will function as a bit of a test run for when we host the conference championship there later in February 2022."
Prior to the home competition on Dec. 10, DePaul will start the season with a trip to the Blue and Gold Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, on Dec. 3. The Blue Demons will frequently make the trip to South Bend, Ind., competing in a total of four meets at Notre Dame this winter.
On Feb. 11, the Blue Demons will head to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Big Meet. DePaul will wrap up the regular season indoor slate with a trip to the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 19 at Notre Dame.
Postseason action will begin with the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 25-26 in Chicago and the Blue Demons will hope to send a group to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. With the indoor season concluding in early March, the Blue Demons will then shift their focus to the outdoor slate which kicks off on April 8.
The Blue Demons begin the outdoor schedule with the Illini Twilight on April 8-9 in Champaign, Ill. Then, DePaul will head to a pair of meets on the West Coast, traveling to the Mt. SAC Relays and the Long Beach Invitational on April 14-16.
"The outdoor schedule will see us branch out from the Midwest and seek warmer weather and elevated competition in expectation of big performances," said Dopek. "There's a lot of excitement about our team about the return to the Mt. SAC Relays/Long Beach Invite."
DePaul will then knock out a trio of meets in the Midwest to wrap up the regular season schedule. To start postseason action, the Blue Demons will head to the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in Storrs, Conn. on May 13-14.
"This will be our first year, since we first joined the Big East Conference, that we will be back at the University of Connecticut for a conference championship," said Dopek.
Following the conference meet, DePaul will hope to send competitors to the NCAA West Preliminaries on May 25-28 in Fayetteville, Ark. and the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
