Borowiak and Bruce lead Blue Demons at Badger Classic

Blue Demons complete second race of the season

MADISON, Wis. - DePaul cross country completed the Badger Classic in Madison, Wis. on Friday evening. The Blue Demons and Wisconsin Badgers were the only teams in action on the Zimmerman Championship Course and Olivia Borowiak and Dominic Bruce led the DePaul women and men, respectively.

In the women's race, Borowiak finished eighth with a time of 19:09.8. Borowiak's performance was her first of the season after leading the Blue Demons during the 2020-21 campaign. Borowiak posted a 15th-place finish in last year's BIG EAST Championships, the highest finish for a DePaul athlete ever in the BIG EAST title meet. Blue Demon newcomer Nina Amicon finished 10th overall in her first race as a Blue Demon, 20 seconds behind Borowiak. Amicon and Borowiak both made up four places from the 2000m mark to the end of the 5200m race.

For the Blue Demon men, Shane Knanishu finished closely behind Bruce. Bruce posted a time of 18:43 for a sixth-place finish while Knanishu finished in 18:57 in eighth. Bruce finished strong, making up three places over the final 4000m.

Following Friday's race, the Blue Demons make the trip down to Normal, Ill. for the Redbird Invite on Sept. 17.
