Softball, Women's Tennis Claim BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award

Two Blue Demon programs earn conference academic accolades
CHICAGO – The DePaul softball and women's tennis teams were two of 22 teams across the BIG EAST Conference recognized on Tuesday morning with the 2021-22 Team Academic Excellence Award. The honors recognize the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
The winners were chosen based on the 2021-22 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
Ten schools had at least one team honored, with Creighton leading the way with four. Butler and St. John's tied for the second most with three teams recognized. DePaul, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall and Villanova each had two teams earn Academic Excellence accolades, while Denver and Marquette both had one.
Since 2008-09, the DePaul's women's basketball, women's cross country, golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field and volleyball teams have all earned the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence at least once.
In the last 14 academic years, DePaul has totaled 71 programs to earn the league's Team Academic Excellence Award with a department-best eight teams in 2016-17, 2014-15 and 2012-13.
