Blue Demon graduate among 57 nominees remaining for top female honor
CHICAGO – Marija Jovicic is a candidate for one of the biggest honors in collegiate athletics.
The DePaul graduate student has been nominated by the BIG EAST Conference for the highly coveted NCAA Woman of the Year award along with Villanova track and field standout McKenna Keegan who finished second at the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters.
Jovicic led the Blue Demons to their eighth consecutive appearance in the BIG EAST title match and played her best tennis of the season in her final matches.
The graduate student from Bosnia-Herzegovina was selected All-BIG EAST Second Team in a vote of opposing coaches.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award also focuses on academics, service and leadership. In the academic arena, Jovicic is among the nation's best. She finished both her undergraduate and graduate years with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
It's no wonder she was a CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each division.
From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the three finalists in each division. Finally, the members of the Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.
All school and conference nominees receive an NCAA certificate and will be recognized on ncaa.org. Later this fall, the national Top 30 honorees and nine finalists will be announced. The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the 2023 NCAA Convention in January.
