Borowiak, Knanishu Lead Charge for Blue Demons

Women earn first, men finish second
PEORIA, Ill. – On Friday afternoon, the DePaul men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at the Bradley Invitational on the road at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Ill. The women's team took first place overall in the three mile race, while the men placed second in the 8K race.Â
"DePaul's a place where our runners embrace hard work, they really like to race hard, '' said coach Geoff Wayton. "We did a great job of hitting our objectives, and running with teammates today. It was just good eyes up racing. They were engaged the whole time. It was a really good day for our program and it's back to work now."Â
The women dominated the course at the Bradley Intercollegiate Championship taking home first place overall. Junior Olivia Borowiak secured first place in the three mile race with a 16:24.9 time, almost breaking the course record of 16:21.5. Nina Amicon came in at a close second, finishing the race with a 16:38.7 time.Â
Meghan Dieball, Meaghan Andrews and Madison Volz rounded out the top five finishers for the women's team, all earning finishes within the top ten. All participants for the women's team finished within the top 20 of the final standings.
Shane Knanishu, Dominic Bruce, Gavin Glaza, Joe Knanishu, Damian Rodriguez, Griffin Lehnhardt and Charley Eagle replaced seven of the top ten 8K times in DePaul men's cross country records.Â
The men had a strong outing in the 8K race as the Blue Demons secured a second place team finish. DePaul had three men finish in the top ten. Knanishu took third overall in the final standings with a time of 24:04.3, followed by Bruce in seventh and Glaza in ninth.Â
The men's gaps throughout the race were very impressive. Their time between the first and fifth runner was only 24 seconds, their one to seven gap was 30 seconds and their one to 10 gap was only a minute.Â
Freshman Will Previdi completed his inaugural race with the Blue Demons, ending with a top-20 finish. Sophomore Charley Eagle also competed as a Blue Demons for the first time, clocking in at 15th place with a 24:34.3 time.Â
UP NEXT:Â The Blue Demons will stay in Chicago for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola. The meet will take place on Sept. 30.Â
