$1 surcharge to be added to men's basketball tickets purchased to impact women's sports programs
CHICAGO – Beginning with the 2022-23 season, DePaul Athletics will introduce a Women's Athletics Advancement fee on DePaul men's basketball ticket purchases. There will be a $1 surcharge on each men's basketball ticket purchased. The Women's Athletics Advancement fee will be applicable to mini-pack, single-game, group, and select promotional ticket purchases. There will be no assessment on season tickets, complimentary tickets, or student tickets.
Revenue collected from the Women's Athletics Advancement fee will be used regularly at the discretion of the Vice President and Director of Athletics to make strategic investments that impact each of DePaul Athletics' women's sports programs.
DePaul Women's Athletics Advancement Initiative is being introduced in coordination with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which is being celebrated across all DePaul Athletics events this season. Passed in 1972, Title IX changed the landscape and opportunities for women in athletics, at all levels. While some institutions, including DePaul, highlighted women in sports long before official legislation, Title IX provided specific guidelines that offered equitable access to resources and safety across federally-funded institutions. Since the 1970's, institutions have come a long way to make collegiate sports more equitable. Title IX was integral to uplifting the visibility of female identifying athletes at DePaul and offered a tangible framework for institutional accountability, gender equity, and inclusion.
