CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis head coach Matt Brothers proudly introduced Thomas Giles, as the latest addition to the Blue Demons' roster Friday morning. The impressive 6'3" freshman joins the 'Band of Brothers' for the highly anticipated 2024 season. Giles, a native of Leicester, England, looks to contribute to the recent success of DePaul men's tennis, as they aim for their third BIG EAST title in the last four seasons.
"Tom checks all of the boxes for us as being an ideal team member," Brothers said. "He exemplifies a commitment to education, prioritizes the team, and has aspirations beyond college tennis for both the sport and himself. We have all the confidence in Giles to make the transition to Division 1 tennis, and believe he can be one of the strongest newcomers in our league this year."
Giles brings an array of accolades to DePaul, currently holding the 35th position in the Great Britain U18 rankings. In the GB men's rankings, he stands at an impressive 138, boasting match records of 34-20 in singles and 39-10 in doubles during 2023. Giles' background includes a two-year stint at Bath University where he was featured in the British Tour and Junior ITF events.
Giles played in multiple United Kingdom club team events, representing Ashby Castle, Oadby, and Leicestershire at Felixstowe over the last couple of years. Giles reached the men's singles final in the Leicestershire County Closed Tennis Championships, in addition to receiving an invitation to play at the prestigious National Tennis Center in Roehampton, London.
"I'm excited to make the move to Chicago and join the Blue Demons," Giles said. "I feel the privilege of becoming a Blue Demon and am extremely grateful for this opportunity. I want to fight every day to bring my best to the court and contribute greatly to our team, and the continued team success. I can't wait to be a part of the team and gain more independence in a big city like Chicago."
