DePaul’s Anaya Peoples Named to All-BIG EAST Second Team

Blue Demon guard averaged 17.2 points and 8.1 rebounds in regular season
NEW YORK – DePaul graduate guard Anaya Peoples earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors on Thursday morning, the conference announced prior to the 2024 Women's Basketball Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena. Peoples earns her first postseason recognition after leading the Blue Demons in both scoring and rebounding, among other categories, in the 2023-24 regular season.<br />

Major awards and All-BIG EAST Teams were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches who were not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players.<br />
<br />
In her final collegiate season, Peoples proved to be one of the most versatile players in the conference, ranking in the top-10 in four statistical categories. The Danville. Ill. native has been a consistent presence for DePaul, averaging a team-best 17.2 points per game and reaching double figures in 26 of 30 games played this season. She has turned in 12 outings of 20 or more points including a career-high 37 points to go with 16 rebounds in an overtime setback to St. John's on Jan. 25.<br />

On the glass, Peoples has collected 242 rebounds this season, the most of any campaign in her career, to rank fifth in the league with an average of 8.1 rebounds per game while posting a team-high six double-doubles. Her defensive activity has allowed her to collect 74 steals which is tied for the most in the BIG EAST alongside teammate Katlyn Gilbert. Adding to her all-around game, Peoples also paces the Blue Demons in assists with 3.4 per game and blocked shots with 29 this season.<br />

Connecticut swept the top three individual awards with Paige Bueckers earning Player of the Year for the second time in her career while Ashlynn Shade was tabbed Freshman of the Year, and the Huskies leader Geno Auriemma was awarded Coach of the Year for the 12th time in his career. The Blue Demons boast 49 All-BIG EAST certificates since joining the league prior to the 2005-06 season.<br />
<br />
DePaul (12-19, 4-14 BIG EAST) opens the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament on Friday, March 8 when the 10th-seeded Blue Demons face off against No. 7 Seton Hall. Tipoff from Mohegan Sun is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CST with live coverage carried on FloHoops.<br />
