CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball alumnus, David Booth, was elected to the DePaul University Board of Trustees, as announced by the University on Monday, April 8. Booth was elected in addition to Sister Barbara Reid, O.P., president of the Catholic Theological Union; Dr. Stephanie D. Shipp, global head of diversity, equity and inclusion for the biotech firm Cytiva; and Lucino Sotelo, executive vice president of Northern Trust.
"I am honored to serve on the board of trustees at my alma matter, DePaul University," said Booth. "I am deeply humbled for the opportunity to give back to the institution that shaped me, and excited to contribute to its continued growth, excellence, and impactful legacy."
Booth becomes the second men's basketball alumni to sit on the current Board, joining Malik Murray who was elected to the board in February 2023. Murray serves as vice chair of the Athletics Committee, which provides fiduciary oversight and monitors integrity and accountability within DePaul's athletic department.
"For more than 30 years Davis is someone I have long admired personally and professionally," said Murray. "He had a major impact on why I ultimately chose DePaul University to become my academic and athletic home and is someone that continues to have a profound impact on my life. I look forward to working with him, Dr. Shipp, Sister Reid, and Mr. Sotelo as the newest members of the board of trustees."
Booth currently serves as associate vice president of basketball operations for the NBA, responsible for interfacing directly with teams and players regarding league programs, rules, new initiatives and competitive elements. His role is intended to further enhance and build upon the strong working relationship between NBA League Operations and its teams under the Respect for the Game umbrella.
He played basketball for the Blue Demons from 1988-92 and is DePaul's second all-time leading scorer, behind Mark Aguirre. Booth was a 1992 honorable mention All-American and became the first DePaul player to earn First Team All-Conference honors in 1992. He graduated as the first player in program history to have 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists and 100 blocks.
Following his collegiate career, Booth played professionally in Europe, Asia and South America for 13 years. After his playing career, Booth transitioned to the NBA and has held a variety of positions for teams and the league since 2005.
Booth earned a bachelor's degree in communications from DePaul.
