DePaul adds eight new runners for the 2024 season
CHICAGO – DePaul associate head cross country coach Geoff Wayton officially announced the addition of eight new student-athletes to the 2024 cross country roster. The newcomers joined the team in Lincoln Park and are set to compete in their first meet tomorrow Friday, Sept. 6, at the Huskie Opener in DeKalb, Ill.
"We will have a very tight pack, and we hope to maintain our placing from last year's BIG EAST Championships," said coach Wayton. "On the men's side, we added two excellent local distance runners, Mohamed Abdullahi and Hirsi Hirsi from Mather High School, who will make an immediate impact this fall. On the women's side, we added two outstanding freshmen, Tessa Roe and Vivian Wyller, both of whom had a great summer and are ready to contribute significantly to our team. Although we lost a few top runners from last season, each of our new student-athletes will undoubtedly have a positive impact on this program."
Mohamed Abdullahi - Freshman - Chicago, Ill.
A Mather High School graduate and high school teammate of fellow newcomer Hirsi Hirsi, Abdullahi joins the Blue Demons as a true freshman. He also earned Illinois All-State honors three times in track and twice in cross country.
John Bush - Junior - Ballwin, Mo.
Bush, who hails from Ballwin, Missouri, joins the Blue Demons as a junior transfer from McKendree University, where he earned first-place finishes at the GLVC Track & Field Championships and the Dewey Allgood Invite. A three-time Bearcat of the Week, he also earned GLVC Athlete of the Week honors during the 2024 season.
Hirsi Hirsi - Freshman - Chicago, Ill.
An incoming freshman and former Mather High School classmate of Mohamed Abdullahi, Hirsi enters the fall as an All-City and All-Regional cross country honoree. He was also the Chicago indoor city runner-up in the 1600m during high school.
Dustin Hudak - Graduate Student - Lowel, Ind.
Hudak comes to Lincoln Park from Trinity Christian College in nearby Palos Heights, Illinois, where he was a multi-sport athlete, competing in basketball, cross country, and track and field. The graduate transfer earned an NCCAA Outdoor National Championship in the 800m run in 2022.
Nick Kamp - Freshman - Naperville, Ill.
Kamp joins the Blue Demons from the Chicagoland area, graduating from Naperville Central in 2024. A three-year varsity athlete, Kamp participated in both track and field and cross country during high school. He also earned Academic All-Conference honors and competed in the 4x800m relay at the 2024 Illinois 3A State Championships.
Amelia Montgomery - Freshman - Highlands Ranch, Colo.
The ThunderRidge High School graduate arrives at Lincoln Park with a flurry of honors and awards, including being named valedictorian, earning Academic All-State recognition, and serving as the track and field team captain. Montgomery was a four-sport athlete, competing in varsity track and cross country, and was a two-year state qualifier at TRHS.
Tessa Roe - Freshman - Portland, Mich.
Roe, a four-sport varsity letter winner, competed in track, cross country, golf, and basketball at Lansing Catholic High School. She is also a three-time state champion, having won titles in golf, basketball, and the 4x800 relay, all in 2023.
Vivian Wyller - Freshman - North Aurora, Ill.
Wyller, a former senior captain of the track and cross country teams at Rosary High School, compiled nine varsity titles across cross country, track, and cheerleading. She finished third in the state track and field and cross country events in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
