Goncharov and Smith Win Consecutive BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Awards

Blue Demons receive honors for third straight week
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis duo Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week on Monday afternoon after defeating two ranked doubles teams. The pair earned the award in back-to-back weeks.
Goncharov and Smith faced No. 69 Tara Katarina Milic/Carmen Gallardo Guevara of Purdue to open play in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday. The Blue Demons' No. 1 doubles team bested Milic and Guevara, 6-3, helping DePaul clinch the doubles point. In the following match against Tulsa, the tandem continued their success, controlling the nation's 18th-ranked doubles team Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings. Goncharov and Smith beat the Golden Hurricanes' duo, 6-3 at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Goncharov and Smith are 5-2 on court one during dual play, having won four straight.
UP NEXT
DePaul travels to Omaha, Nebraska, for two matches next weekend against Omaha and Creighton. The contest with the Mavericks is set for Friday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. CT from the Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The Blue Demons face the Blue Jays, on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. CT on the Hanscom Tennis Courts.
