Blue Demons Downed by Hoyas in BIG EAST Quarterfinal

CAYCE, S.C. – While they battled to the end, DePaul men's tennis saw its 2025 spring dual campaign come to a close with a 4-2 decision to No. 5 seed Georgetown, ending a historic run by Matteo Iaquinto, Sven Moser, and Jona Gitschel—a trio that helped deliver two of the three BIG EAST titles in program history, closing their collegiate careers together after arriving as freshmen in the fall of 2021.

DePaul (13-11, 4-2 BIG EAST) saw its season come to a close with a younger, resilient group that built on the program's recent success. The 2024-25 Blue Demons became the program's first nationally ranked team since 2015, had student-athletes earn a bid to the ITA Masters, record a ranked singles win, represent in Davis Cup play, and earn ATP points, while the team posted a 5-1 home record, recorded four home sweeps for the first time since 2017, and secured a top-five seed at the BIG EAST Championships for the 12th consecutive year.

Georgetown jumped ahead early by clinching the doubles point with 6-2 and 6-3 victories at the top two courts.

In singles action, the Hoyas extended their lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 5. DePaul clawed back behind strong performances from Andy Hadziabdic and Tobias Leitner—Hadziabdic rolled through in straight sets at No. 4, while Leitner delivered a convincing win at No. 6. With the Blue Demons trailing 3-2, Georgetown ultimately clinched the match at No. 1 singles, where Iaquinto fought valiantly before falling in a second-set tiebreaker.
