Augusto Pardo Cano Named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

Freshman clinches first dual victory of the season for DePaul
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis freshman Augusto Pardo Cano has been named BIG EAST Men's Singles Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native earns his first career weekly honor after delivering the clincher in DePaul's 4-3 victory over BIG EAST foe Butler at XS Tennis Village, Sunday, Feb. 22.
Pardo Cano secured the Blue Demons' first dual win of the season in dramatic fashion at No. 5 singles. After dropping the opening set 6-4, he responded with a commanding 6-2 second set to force a decider. In a back-and-forth third set, Pardo Cano faced four match points before holding steady to reach a 6-6 deadlock. He then surged in the tiebreak, racing to a 7-2 victory to clinch the fourth and final point for DePaul in its BIG EAST opener.
