Gandini’s Perfect Weekend Nets BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

DePaul newcomer anchors turnaround, secures weekly honor
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis graduate student Alejandro Gandini has been named BIG EAST Men's Singles Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Gandini becomes the second Blue Demon to earn the honor this season, marking consecutive weeks a DePaul player has claimed the conference's singles recognition.
The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native went 3-0 in singles Feb. 28–March 1 at the George Lott Classic, helping DePaul secure victories over No. 62 Cal Poly and Army before closing the weekend against Dartmouth.
Gandini delivered a pair of straight-set victories Saturday to lead the Blue Demons' perfect opening day. He secured the match-clinching point against Cal Poly with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on the top court before returning later in the day to defeat Army's Jackson Armistead by the same scoreline. Gandini continued his strong form Sunday morning, earning DePaul's lone point against Dartmouth with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
With the weekend results, DePaul has won three of its last four matches, with Gandini anchoring the Blue Demons at the top of the lineup throughout the stretch. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year and three-time All-BIG EAST selection (2023–25) adds another conference honor to his résumé with the weekly recognition, bringing his career totals to 43 singles victories and 47 doubles wins along with three BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honors and three career BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week selections.
