Blue Demons Finish Runner-Up at BIG EAST Championships

Men’s tennis falls to St. John’s 4-1 Sunday morning

CAYCE, S.C. – DePaul men's tennis saw its postseason run end Sunday morning, falling 4-1 in the BIG EAST Championship at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center. The result snapped DePaul's streak of three-straight championship match victories over St. John's. The Blue Demons now hold a 3-2 edge all-time in BIG EAST Championship meetings and finish the dual season at 11-13 overall.

DePaul dropped the doubles point after a pair of setbacks at No. 1 and No. 3. Augusto Pardo Cano and Sebastian Medica fell 6-2 at the top court while Sven Moser and Thomas Giles were defeated 6-1 at No. 3. The match at No. 2, with Alejandro Gandini and Tobias Leitner, went unfinished at 4-3.

In singles, the Blue Demons fell behind 3-0 following straight-set losses on courts three and one. Pablo Torres Almeida dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 3, while Alejandro Gandini fell 6-4, 6-4 on the top court. Sebastian Medica put DePaul on the board at No. 2, rallying from a set down to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory and cut the deficit to 3-1. The Johnnies clinched the win at No. 5, where Andy Hadziabdic fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 to secure the 4-1 final.

DePaul wrapped the 2026 campaign with its fourth BIG EAST Championship appearance in the last six seasons and its first title match appearance since 2024.
