Pair of DePaul Programs Earn BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards

Women's Basketball and Men's Soccer recognized for highest team GPAs in the league
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the recipients of its 2025-26 Team Academic Excellence Awards, recognizing the conference's top-performing teams in the classroom across each of its 22 sponsored sports, including DePaul women's basketball and men's soccer. A total of 10 schools received at least one award with DePaul among a group of five institutions with multiple.
The conference recognized one team in each sport, with the annual awards highlighting the outstanding academic achievements of BIG EAST student-athletes during the 2025-26 academic year. The awards are presented annually to the team in each conference-sponsored sport that records the highest cumulative grade-point average. Team GPAs are calculated using every student-athlete listed on an institution's official roster at the conclusion of the championship segment in each sport.
DePaul women's basketball shared this year's honor with Villanova, after recording a team grade-point average of 3.528. Men's soccer earned its team excellence award behind a 3.759 grade-point average, continuing an outstanding record of nine-straight years above a 3.65. It marks the 11th award for both teams, dating back to 2007-08.

DePaul's 15 intercollegiate athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I, BIG EAST Conference. DePaul University began sponsoring athletics teams in the early 1900's, with intercollegiate athletics coming to fruition in the 1920's.
