Kalina Urbaniak Named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week

Senior earns first-career conference honor following historic 5K performance
CHICAGO – DePaul cross country's Kalina Urbaniak was named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Urbaniak set a new personal-best time of 17:39.4 in the 5K at the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind. over the weekend. The senior placed ninth overall and moved to No. 3 on DePaul's all-time 5K list, improving on her previous best of 18:06.40 set at the Huskie Opener two weeks prior.
Her performance led the Blue Demons to a runner-up team finish, marking the first time in program history that both DePaul squads finished runner-up at the National Catholic Championships. Urbaniak was also one of three Blue Demons to record an all-time top-10 5K performance at the meet.
UP NEXT
The Blue Demons return to Chicago Friday, Sept. 25, for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. The meet will also serve as DePaul cross country's SAAC outing.
