Tonkel began working for DePaul in 2020 as a Student Manager for Men’s Basketball. After graduating in 2022 with his bachelor’s degree in Business Management, he joined the facilities/equipment staff as an assistant facilities/equipment manager. In this role, he was responsible for set-up and break down off events in the Sullivan Athletic Center, Wish/Cacciatore Stadium, and Wintrust Arena. Tonkel also helped the equipment staff with ordering, decorating, and issuing of gear to all teams.

Tonkel transitioned to the lead equipment role in summer 2024. As the equipment lead, he plays a crucial role in equipping our teams by managing procurement, maintenance, decoration and distribution of athletic equipment across our 15 varsity sports program.

Born and raised in Chicago, Tonkel has a brother, Matthew, and a sister, Katherine. Tonkel is also a member of the AEMA (Athletic Equipment Managers Association) and is currently working towards his certification.
