Peter McKeown joined the DePaul women’s soccer staff in August 2023. With more than a decade of goalkeeper training experience, McKeown arrived in Lincoln Park after serving as an assistant coach at St. Thomas, where he helped launch the program’s transition to Division I. At DePaul, McKeown works primarily with the team’s goalkeepers and has guided the unit to two of its most productive defensive seasons in recent years.
In 2024, DePaul finished second in the BIG EAST in total saves (89) and third in saves per game (4.45), while tying for third in shutouts (6). Under McKeown’s direction, senior goalkeeper Elena Milam ranked second in the league with 82 saves and 4.10 saves per game. She also tied for fifth in shutouts (6) and earned a program-record seven BIG EAST weekly honors. By season’s end, Milam ranked sixth in program history with 193 career saves.
The year prior, DePaul led the BIG EAST in total saves (97) and ranked third in saves per game (5.11). Milam anchored the group with a conference-best 90 saves, ranking third in saves per game (4.74) and tying for fifth in shutouts (4). The 2023 and 2024 seasons both marked top-five conference finishes in multiple defensive categories.
During his time at St. Thomas, McKeown served as the goalkeeper coach, leading goalkeeper development and training through the fall and spring during the university’s first two seasons as a Division I program.
McKeown makes the trek back to Chicago after graduating from Loyola Chicago in 2012, where he served as the team’s four-year starting goalkeeper. He was named MVP of the 2011 Horizon League Championship and helped the Ramblers earn an NCAA Tournament appearance.
After graduation, McKeown played professionally for the Chicago Inferno, where he served as the team’s starting goalkeeper. He later coached across various levels and programs, including high school and club, before joining the collegiate ranks at St. Thomas.
