Chester Chesney, a 1938 graduate of DePaul University, was a standout two-sport athlete who made his mark on both the football field and basketball court during the 1930s. Known for his toughness and leadership, Chesney anchored the Blue Demons football team as a hard-hitting center while also contributing to the basketball program.
Following his collegiate career, Chesney served his country in World War II before joining the Chicago Bears, where he was part of the team’s 1940 NFL Championship squad. His accomplishments extended beyond athletics; he later built a distinguished career in business and public service, serving as a U.S. Congressman from Illinois and working in investment banking.
In recognition of his athletic excellence and lifelong achievements, Chester Chesney was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1978. His legacy remains a proud part of DePaul’s storied history.
