George Martin Lott Jr. was Men’s Tennis Coach at DePaul University from 1969 until 1991, and remains one of the most celebrated figures in the history of college tennis. Born in Springfield, Illinois in 1906, he had a storied playing career before coaching, winning twelve major championships in men’s and mixed doubles, including multiple U.S. National and Wimbledon titles, and making his mark as one of the top doubles players of his era. At DePaul he shaped the men’s tennis program over more than two decades, earning induction into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1964. In 2024 DePaul formally honored his legacy by naming a court at XS Tennis the “George Lott Court,” ensuring his influence on tennis in Chicago will endure.
