Mark Aguirre remains one of the most notable DePaul players to come through Lincoln Park. After three seasons, Aguirre left DePaul as the program's all-time leading scorer and the Blue Demons second National College Player of the Year. Aguirre's No. 24 is one of only two numbers retired at DePaul, joining George Mikan's No. 99. Aguirre posted a 79-10 record in his three seasons, helping guide the Blue Demons to three-straight NCAA Tournaments in the 1979 Final Four.Â
A native of Chicago, Aguirre was a top-ranked prospect before committing to the Blue Demons. Aguirre averaged 24.0 points as a freshman before scoring 26.8 and 23.0 points per game, respectively, across the next two seasons. Aguirre was a two-time consensus first team All-American in 1980 and 1981, before being drafted first overall in the 1981 NBA Draft. Aguirre went on to a 13-year NBA career where he would score 18,458 points, 4,578 rebounds and 2,818 assists.Â
