Terry Cummings was a member of the Blue Demons men's basketball team from 1979-82. The 6’9 power forward averaged a total of 16.4 points per game with a total of 1,398 career points. Up until the turn of the century he remained in the top-10 all-time scoring at DePaul. Cummings' jersey was retired by DePaul in 2024, becoming the first non-number jersey retirement in school history.Â
Throughout the 1981-82 season, Cummings ranked eighth in program history in single-season scoring (624), seventh in rebounding average (11.9), sixth in field goals made (244) and seventh in field goal percentage (.567). Â
As a sophomore, Cummings and his team finished the regular season 27-2. He became a two-time All-American. In his junior year, he helped lead DePaul to a 21-game winning streak, finishing the season with an overall 26-2 record.Â
Cummings was drafted second overall in the 1982 NBA Draft by the San Diego Clippers where he would go on to be named the 1983 NBA Rookie of the Year. A two-time NBA All-Star, Cummings had an 18-year career in the league with 19,460 career points, 8,630 rebounds and 1,255 steals. His career 19,460 points are the most all-time by a Blue Demon in the NBA.Â
