Tyrone Corbin was a member of the Blue Demons men's basketball team from 1981-85, establishing himself as one of the program's all-time great rebounders. Corbin to date ranks third in career rebounds at DePaul with 893, in addition to 1,378 career points scored. At the time of his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2005, Corbin ranked as the 13th all-time leading scorer and was the only Blue Demon to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and free throw percentage for two consecutive seasons (1983-84, 1984-85).Â
Corbin was named an NIT All-Star (1983) and was a two-time honorable mention All-American (1984, 1985). After being invited to the 1984 Olympic Trials, Corbin was drafted in the second round of the 1985 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Corbin had a 16-year NBA career where he scored 9,766 points and tallied 5,046 rebounds.Â
Following his playing career, Corbin entered the coaching space as a manager of player development for the New York Knicks. He would be named an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz in 2004 where he would serve in that role for seven years before being elevated to head coach in 2011. Following three seasons as head coach, Corbin served as an assistant for the Sacramento kings, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets up until 2024.Â
