CHICAGO - DePaul used a balanced attack with four players posting double figure kill totals en route to posting a 3-0 (15-13, 15-5, 15-13) win over Marquette in the Conference USA opener for both teams on September 19 at the DePaul Athletic Center.
The win was DePaul's fifth straight and moved the Blue Demons to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in C-USA action.
DePaul is off to its best start since the 1991 season when the Blue Demons opened 11-2.
"It's always great to open conference play with a win and anytime you get a C-USA win it's a good thing," DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. "We had a nice balanced attack and that is a tribute to Kara Jakusz spreading the ball all around."
Jakusz, DePaul's junior setter, dished out an even 50 assists in the match. Katie Engel led DePaul with 18 kills while Stephanie Bishop and Meg Griffin each posted 12 and Melissa Nordine added 10. Nordine also had a match-high 19 digs while Bishop tallied 11.
Marquette got 13 kills from Ann Lopata and 14 digs from Mehgan Devine.
The Blue Demons continue C-USA play this weekend when they travel to UAB on Friday and Memphis on Saturday.
