Chicago - In the second part of its weekend showdown with conference powers Cincinnati and Louisville, the Blue Demons (12-5, 3-2 Conference USA) fell to Louisville 3-1 (4-15, 4-15, 15-7, 9-15) September 30.
DePaul struggled early as the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game and never really looked back from there. The Demons didn't help their own cause either, as they had six service errors and hit just .012 through the first two games.
Bing Sun led the Cardinals and all players with 18 kills, while teammate Anastasia Zaitseva added 17 kills and 21 digs. Her dig total was tops in the match.
For the Blue Demons, Stephanie Bishop and Katie Engel led the team with 16 kills and 15 digs apiece.
The lone ray of excitement for DePaul came during the third game, where they built a 9-3 lead before closing out the game 15-7. The game was sparked by strong defensive play at the net and the ability of the DePaul attackers to put balls away.
The team now stands in second place in the American division and plays Saint Louis on the road this Friday.
