Louisville, Ken. -- The DePaul volleyball team lost its third consecutive match to 22nd ranked Louisville. The Cardinals downed the Blue Demons 30-28, 30-21, 26-30, 30-24.
"We fought back well after the Cincinnati loss," said Coach Dawn Dockstader. "Louisville is a great team and played very well tonight. They are very deserving of their ranking."
As was the case in Cincinnati, the Blue Demons dropped a close first game. DePaul could never take the lead closing the gap to a point several times. However, the Cardinals were too strong, holding off the Blue Demons 30-28.
After dropping the second game, DePaul came out hot in the third game. The Demons jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before Louisville evened the game at 7-7. The game went back-and-forth with the team battling to a 26-26 tie. This game it was DePaul coming up big at the end scoring the final four points in the game winning 30-26.
In the fourth game, the Cardinals were too much for the Blue Demons to handle. Louisville maintained a five-point lead throughout the game finishing off the match with a 30-24 victory. The loss drops the Blue Demons to 13-4 on the season and 5-2 in Conference USA. Louisville improves to 12-3 on the season and a 7-2 conference mark.
Senior Stephanie Bishop finished the night with 16 kills and 13 digs while junior Katie Engel added 14 kills. Sophomore Lara Marks led the Demons with five block assists and senior Melissa Nordine added 13 kills and 12 digs.
Dockstader said, "Bishop was very strong defensively tonight and Engel played well offensively. I think Marks and Dirr (senior Christa Dirr) played well offensively in the middle tonight."
DePaul returns home to host Illinois State Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Athletic Center.
