Blue Demons Host Billikens

CHICAGO - The DePaul men's soccer team returns to Wish Field for a 3 p.m. match on Wednesday against Saint Louis. The fourth-ranked Billikens enter the match as one of two teams in Conference USA without a loss. The Blue Demons enter the match at 0-6-1 while Saint Louis is 6-0-0.
Noting the Blue Demons
DePaul has lost two straight matches by two goals after playing Louisville to a 3-3 tie. Following Wednesday's match, the Blue Demons go on the road again to Cincinnati for a Saturday afternoon match.
Senior forward Chris Greer leads DePaul with eight points on four goals. His four scores put him in a tie for fourth in the Conference USA rankings. Ed Kiefer has a goal this season in addition to a pair of assists. Robert Marshall and Dimitri Rousseau each have a goal and an assist. In goal, Jash Chavero needs just two more games to become DePaul's all-time leader in games played by a goalkeeper. Chavero is ranked second in the conference with 6.25 saves per match.
Checking Out the Billikens
Saint Louis is one of two unbeaten teams in Conference USA as they enter Wednesday's match at 6-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in C-USA play. They defeated TCU in their last match, 4-0.
League scoring leader Dipsay Selolwane has scored eight goals in the six matches followed by Brad Davis with four goals. Davis and David Beck are tied for the C-USA lead with four assists each. The Billikens were the preseason pick to win the league championship.
Last Time Out
With the match in a scoreless tie, Western Illinois' Mike Smith scored a goal at 72:37 to lead the Leathernecks to a 2-0 win over DePaul on Saturday afternoon. Western Illinois added another goal six minutes later for the final score. With the loss, DePaul dropped to 0-6-1 on the season.
DePaul's Jeff Klitzke held off the Leathernecks for most of the match, making three saves while facing 13 shots. The Leathernecks had an opportunity to score in the first half, but the DePaul defense saved the goal.
In addition to Smith's score, Jake Horn headed in the second score off a Jason Schroeder cross.
Rearranging the Schedule
With the recent national events, a number of changes have occurred on the 2001 DePaul soccer schedule. DePaul filled in the two cancelled games at the Leatherneck Kelme Classic with Northern Illinois on Sept. 18 and Western Illinois on Sept. 29.
The match originally scheduled for Sept. 18 at TCU has been moved to Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. The kickoff for the Nov. 4 contest against Charlotte has been moved up to 1 p.m.
Looking Ahead
After traveling to Cincinnati for a Saturday afternoon match, the Blue Demons return home on Oct. 13 to face Conference USA newcomer East Carolina. The Blue Demons and Pirates face off at 2 p.m.
