UAB Tops Blue Demons

CHICAGO – The visiting UAB Blazers handed the DePaul Blue Demons a 4-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Wish Field. The loss snapped DePaul’s two-game winning streak and dropped the Blue Demons to 2-8-2 overall and 1-3-2 in Conference USA play.
The Blazers scored twice in the first half and added two more goals in the second period for the 4-0 final. In a game slowed by a combined 33 fouls and four yellow cards, the Blue Demons got off nine shots, but were unable to find the net.
Flavio Monteiro scored UAB’s first two goals in the 21st and 43rd-minute marks of the first half. The first score came on a deflection in front of DePaul keeper Jeff Klitzke. His second score came when he lobbed the ball over Klitzke from 10 yards out.
The Blazers added two more goals in the second half from Jose Rayo and Oswaldo Gallegos. Rayo scored the game’s third goal at 50:52 after a scramble in front of the DePaul net. The final goal of the match came at 85:29 when Gallegos headed in a throw in from Jonathan Weimer.
Next weekend, the Blue Demons go on the road for matches at South Florida and Stetson. The Blue Demons play at South Florida on Friday night followed by a Sunday afternoon match at Stetson.
