CHICAGO -- DePaul senior outside hitter Stephanie Bishop has been named the Conference USA volleyball co-Player of the Week for the period ending Sun., Oct. 21. She shares the award with Saint Louis' Colleen Hunter. Bishop led the Blue Demons to a perfect 3-0 record last week and set the conference career record for kills and digs.
"I'm very proud of Stephanie," DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. "She's been a leader offensively and defensively ever since she stepped foot in this program. No one works harder than she does and no one is more deserving than Stephanie because of her work ethic."
Bishop, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind. and former Northrop standout, recorded double-doubles in all three matches last week. She pounded 16 kills and 15 digs in a three-game victory over Illinois State on Tuesday. In the second game, Bishop set the new conference career record for digs, surpassing former Houston Cougar standout Kristin Guidish. On Friday against Southern Miss, she compiled 24 kills and 16 digs in the Blue Demons five-game victory. Bishop closed out her record-setting week with 23 kills and 23 digs against Tulane in DePaul's four-game vicotry. She eclipsed ex-Cincinnati Bearcat Becky Tenkman to become the conference's career record holder for kills.
"I'm proud of breaking the records," said Bishop. "I'm more proud of how well the team is doing this season."
The Blue Demons are riding a three-match winning streak and own a 16-4 record this season. DePaul sits at 7-2 in Conference USA one game behind Cincinnati. The Blue Demons are next in action Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. against Bradley at the DePaul Athletic Center.
