DELAND, Fla. – A pair of early scorers by the Stetson Hatters was enough to hold off the DePaul men’s soccer team on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. DePaul’s Robert Marshall cut the lead to 2-1 in the 25th minute, but the Blue Demons couldn’t tally another score the rest of the match.
At 9:30, Stetson’s Joe Fitzpatrick scored on a penalty kick to give the Hatters the early advantage. Less than six minutes later, Ian Zarac scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Carl Keever for the 2-0 lead.
Marshall scored the lone Blue Demon goal at 24:28 on a penalty kick past Hatter keeper Tim Riek. From that point, neither team could net another goal as Stetson outshot DePaul, 15-6.
With the loss, the Blue Demons drop to 2-10-2 overall on the season. This weekend, DePaul travels to Valparaiso and hosts Charlotte. The Blue Demons go to Valparaiso on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. match. Senior Day will be Sunday afternoon when DePaul takes on the 49ers. Kickoff on Sunday is at 1 p.m.
