Blue Demons and Bearcats Battle to 1-1 Tie

CINCINNATI – Despite being outshot, 17-5, the DePaul men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday afternoon. Denny Meheghan’s goal at 56:57 evened the score at 1-1, but neither team could find the net for the rest of regulation and two overtime periods.
Cincinnati’s Matt Hayden scored with 50 seconds left in the first half on an assist from John Liersemann. Meheghan tied the game in the 57th minute as he beat Cincinnati goalkeeper Sacha Nathu for the unassisted score.
DePaul’s Jeff Klitzke tallied seven saves while playing all 120 minutes. DePaul was outshot, 17-5, and the Bearcats also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
DePaul is now 0-7-2 overall and 0-2-2 in Conference USA play. The Blue Demons return home for a Saturday afternoon match against Conference USA newcomer East Carolina. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Wish Field.
