Fort Worth, Texas -- The DePaul volleyball team won its final match of the regular season defeating TCU in four games. The Blue Demons finish the regular season with a 11-5 conference record (20-8 overall), good for fifth place in Conference USA.
"It's nice to get our 20th win," said head coach Dawn Dockstader. "It gives us some momentum heading into the conference tournament."
The Blue Demons jumped all over TCU in the first game building a 18-5 lead. TCU closed the gap to eight points, but that's as close as they would get. DePaul finished the game off by a 30-20 score.
Game two was a back-and-forth affair. With the score tied 24-24, the Blue Demons responded by scoring six of the game's final seven points to pull out a 30-25 win.
After dropping the third game 26-30, DePaul finished the match off with a 30-28 victory. Junior Katie Engel led the Blue Demons with 19 kills, a .429 hitting percentage and 14 digs. Senior Stephanie Bishop finished with 15 kills and 19 digs, senior Melissa Nordine added 15 kills while hitting a .353 and finished with 15 digs and senior Kara Jakusz finished with 62 assists.
Dockstader added, "I thought Mel (Nordine) really took over offensively at crucial times and delivered some big kills. Kara (Jakusz) did really well hanging the ball outside.; And Flan (senior Mary Anne Flanigan) really gave us a lot of momentum with her jump serve. She had some huge serves. I'm proud she jump served with a lot of confidence today."
The Blue Demons now wait and see who they will face in the first round of the Conference USA tournament. DePaul will face the 12th seed on Thursday in Houston, Texas.
