CHICAGO – Delonte Holland, a sophomore at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Ind., has signed a letter-of-intent to attend DePaul University, it was announced today by head coach Pat Kennedy.
"We are very pleased to have Delonte as a part of our program," Kennedy said. "He may end up as one of the top five junior college players in the nation this season. For a player of his height, he can play both the two and three positions. Delonte is a terrific scorer and competitor."
Holland, a 6-7, 210-pound small forward is currently at Vincennes where he was named a third-team preseason JC All-American by Street & Smith’s and was tabbed as the nation's fourth-best junior college wing guard by Lindy's and the fifth-best small forward by the Sporting News. After his first two games this season he is averaging 25 points per contest. He spent his first season at Independence (Kansas) C.C. where he averaged 17 points and seven rebounds while earning All-Jay-Hawk East Conference honors.
As a prep at Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, Holland was on the District of Columbia All-Metro Team, earned honorable mention All-American honors, was rated among the Top 50 prep seniors and averaged 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists as a senior.
"William was one of the finest junior college guards we saw last year," Kennedy said. "As a prep he was all-state in basketball, football and baseball so he has great competitive instincts and a tremendous work ethic. Although he is best suited to play the one position, he will be a very good scorer at the Division I level."
In the preseason, Watson was listed among the nation's top 10 junior college point guards by Lindy's. In his first season of junior college action, Watson averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 assists per game while earning Region XIV honorable mention honors. William was All-Louisiana in three sports while playing for Baton Rouge's Bellaire High School.
CHICAGO – Marcus White, a senior at Whitney Young High School in Chicago, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend DePaul University, it was announced today by head coach Pat Kennedy.
"Marcus is one of the nation's leading inside players and rebounders," Kennedy said. "We know that he comes from a great program and plays for a tremendous coach at Whitney Young. Marcus will continue the line of outstanding Chicago student-athletes that have joined our program."
White, a 6-8 power forward, was named to both the high honorable mention All-American team and the All-Chicago squad by Street & Smith’s. He was also ranked as the 83rd-best senior in the nation by The Sporting News and was listed among the top 200 seniors in the nation by Athlon.
White attends the same high school that produced former DePaul great and current Los Angeles Clipper Quentin Richardson.
